Passionate Entrepreneur – Coach Rodrigo Go of Crossfit Kagayan
What’s Your Professional Background?
I am a Registered Nurse in the Philippines but I never got to practice it professionally. After passing the board exams I went on to work on myself and gained a following and clients then I started to seek out certifications. At present these are my certifications:
ACE CPT (American Council on Exercise, Certified Trainer)
ISSA-SSC (International sports sciences association, Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
CFL3 (CrossFit Level 3 trainer, only 1 in the country)
Olympic Weightlifting Certified Coach
Pn1 (Precision Nutrition level 1)
ISSA Sports Nutrition Specialist
Registered Nurse
I mainly coach at my gym CrossFit Kagayan and do some one on one stuff depending on the clients’ goals. I can handle and cater to athletes for strength and conditioning, diet and nutrition, and supplementation. I do get some clients that are after aesthetics too but most of them are after overall fitness, and diet and nutrition coaching.
How did your passion help you grow as a person and as a professional?
I have always been really passionate about helping other people. For as long as I can remember I have always been the one to offer a hand to a friend in need. Now it has been realized when I became a fitness coach, opened my fitness gym, and a nutrition coaching company.
I did all these in order for me to reach and help people take control of their lives and health through fitness. As far as growth is concerned, I cannot think of any other aspect that has helped me more as a human being.
Teaching and coaching have helped me become a better person in general and I think it’s because of the constant pursuit of learning new things. I also believe that teaching is the highest form of leaning and at the end of the day, coaching, makes me feel fulfilled despite how tiring it is.
What were the challenges that you experienced when you first started pursuing your professional growth and your business?
Most of the challenges I believe were those being faced by newbies. I didn’t know how to handle finances. I was a passionate coach and not a seasoned businessman. As a coach, there were a lot of challenges that I faced. I experienced being betrayed by fellow coaches, friends, and clients.
I almost stopped doing what I loved because of the hurt and trauma it gave me but I guess my passion and drive won since I am here where I am now. Of course, it would not be possible without some people who helped me and supported me without condition. This is why I keep going because I know that there are those people who deserve and need my help.
Who or what were your inspirations that helped push you towards becoming successful?
I was a networker before and with that, I have been exposed to a lot of motivational speakers and one of them that really made a mark in my heart and brain is Jim Rohn. He is the reason why I reach as many people as I can and not keep my gift of coaching to myself and to a select few. He said once in his recorded seminars (paraphrased) “If you want to become the greatest, be the servant of the many…” I think that might also be biblical.
So that is why I am reaching and serving as many people as I can because I want to be great and awesome in what I do. Besides him, coaches and trainers in my field like Greg Glassman, Ben Bergeron, Mike Burgner, and others, have been a big influence on how I teach, coach, and program.
Where do you see yourself and your business five years from now?
Honestly, it has been a dream of mine to be a big presence in the online world. I just procrastinate because I think I am still afraid of what it will turn out to be but I am definitely doing it. Apart from that, I want to hold seminars, talks, and lectures on health and fitness to groups of people.
What would be your message to those who’re hesitant to go after their dreams?
ACT inspite of fear. If it does the humanity good and it does not step over somebody else’s rights, go for it! It is better to be sighing in regret for something you reached for that you really wanted than be in regret for something you achieved but never really wanted in the first place.
Take it in strides and never push people away. It might be hard to trust but you will know in your gut that the people you meet are there to help or just to be an ass lol with that, always pick the people you hang out with.
The 5 books, friends, food, and activities you constantly spend time with will greatly impact your life 3 to 5 years from now.
